I’m sure you are right about the firewall Bruce. They are some interesting parts you have found Graham – it would be great to see pics of any other items you managed to save, if you manage to dig them out. I sent you a PM by the way.

Thanks for the replies all these parts came from RAF Lichfield off the scrapping area. These were lying in the hedges and all over the field there are a lot more bits when i can find them which include cowlings and large panels and many more parts undamaged. The farmer gave me these as they were damaging his farm machinery. There were also Lancaster engine mounts B17 bomb doors and wellington cockpit framing and much more including bomb aimers windows , sadly these were buried by the farmer in an old pond near the site. I believe many Typhoons were scrapped here as there was a field full at the end of the war and also many 1000s of other aircraft were scrapped here. I have been told by people who worked here that alot were stripped by Marshalls especially engines for salvage. Alot of aircraft bits were taken to local disused mines and quarries and dumped , i presume these were the rubber and tyres and internal fittings and other items. Also a rumour here is that a Mosquito crashed in the late 1950’s at an airshow when the pilot flew past the crowd on one engine and feathered the wrong prop and crahed on the airfield ?
