McPeak later became a notoriously unpopular USAF Chief of Staff.
In the service he basically let it be known that pilots were number one…actually fighter pilots were #1, other lesser pilots were #2 and everyone else (you know, mechanics, support staff…people really unnecessary to getting things done :rolleyes:) were only of minor importance.
I’m sure he wasn’t the first fighter pilot (or general) to think that, but he was unwise enough to let his true opinions become known.
It is said he also wanted the F-22 to be named “Superstar“.
Last time I saw him he had grown a pony tail and supported Obama’s defense cuts.
