RE: AA vehicle pics

Nice Pics Hawk.

That swedish CV90 seems rather interesting… 40mm bofors gun is still being used as a standard AAG and now a SPAAG. That has to be some sort of record.

Skythe
Never heard that tipping problem about the ZSU-57-2.
Only problems I had heard were the tracking rate of the guns was too slow for use against modern low flying jets and that without any radar warning or guidance (both of which can be fitted to the towed version of teh 57mm S-60… ironically) by the time the guns could be turned to track a target a fast moving target was out of the danger zone.
The only praise I have heard about this system was in the ground support role where its 2.8kg HE rounds and high rate of fire (120 rpm per gun) has been used very effectively.

Here are some Pics from Maks 2002.
First is a Shilka from behind. (There was a model with two twin SA-16 launchers mounted on the rear of the turret but I can’t find the pics at the moment).
Second is the Tor SAM (SA-15 Gauntlet) system with its main radar folded down. (has 8 vertical launch missiles in the turret).

Third is the medium range Buk (SA-11 Gadfly).
Fourth is a new system with MMW radar and TI search system for 4 light SAMs. (SA-7 through to much more effective but also more expensive SA-16, or SA-18).
Fifth is another new SAM system with 8 light SAMs mounted on a tracked chassis.

Picture 6 shows a Tunguska with 2 twin barrel 2A38 30mm cannon and 8 SA-19 Grison SAMs.

The fourth and fifth pictures showing two new SAM systems perhaps reflect the fact that big expensive systems like Buk and Tor are often to expensive for some armed forces to buy in the numbers needed and while very capable a cheaper though still capable and mobile alternative or gap filler might be useful.
The current version of the SA-18… Igla-S has a range of 6km and is designed to be used against RPVs and cruise missiles to reduce the cost for the defence when faced with an enemy with large numbers of these systems. As a comparison the SA-13 had a much larger missile that had an effective range of about 5km so these new systems may in fact be seen as replacements of the SA-13.
