RE: Announcing the arrival of flight JS001 from “The Axis of Evil”
Alastair, at present Air Koryo operates 2 TU134-A3 Regns P813/P814. When I visited the country in 1986 all of the aircraft in the fleet that we saw looked very well cared for, however I don’t think that they have a hard life. The TU134 that we flew on only had seats from the overwing exits foreward, the aft cabin was just curtained off. The IL62 was conventional inside. In 86 it was forbidden to photograph at the airport and I was politely-no really!-discouraged from using my camera in the cabin, though I understand that things are a little easier now. There is an IL62M that operates exclusively
for the leadership of the country and this is easy to spot as it has no titles on the aircraft and I think that it still sports the national flag on the fin as did the the Air Koryo aircraft when they were painted up as CAAK (Civil Aviation Administration of Korea) The inflight service was good and the cabin crew very well “groomed”
Hope this info is helpful.
