RE: australian aviation

My view of Aus airlines is positive. I believe their service levels to pax are among the highest in the world. The aircraft are modern, the seats have entertainment and the food is quite acceptable – crew are customer orientated. I remember being so shocked at the lousy domestic service when I first flew in the US and shocked again in Europe when I had the chance to travel J in 6 abreast in an MD83!
As for competition well it will make the consumer dollar stretch further, hopefully without a customer service compromise. Impulse may be ‘doing it tough’ as their load levels are averaging on 45% now and they are re-thinking their ticket distribution strategy to now embrace travel agents in a more traditional way. The idea is to grow the entire market and not just have canibalisation between the carriers. The launch of Spirit also throws a little more fat onto the fire. Attracting business pax away from the One World & Star ALliance frequent flyer programmes will be a challenge for the newbies. I think.
