The controllers are usually a reversible game pad/phone which fits into one side of the arm rest. They are removible with a springy flex on them. All part of the ticket.
Usually on long haul scheduled flights you have an awful lot of choice becuase of market place competition between the airlines.
Eg. on LHR-JNB you can fly direct with BA, SAA and Virgin and if you connect -KLM, AF, LH, SAS, Alitalia, TAP, Iberia – need I go on?
That is not the case with most charter carriers (ie. your travel operator chooses the carrier, not you) hence the seeming lack of seat back TVs, headphones you have to buy etc.
