It has occcured to me, having been prompted by another thread, that some time ago (I think the 1992 airshow at Debden) I saw a gentleman who had completed the wings of a Typhoon that must have come in somewhere around 1/4 or 1/5th scale – they were really quite big.
I doubt there are that many large R/C model Tiffies about – does anyone know if he ever finished it, and what has happened to it since?

I’ll stick to the old Cambrian Fun Fighters personally – if I ever got back into R/C properly again….

I was going to wait till i retire to build one of these but i might start abit earlier judging by the build times!

I suppose it depends on your definition of “large”. Roy Vaillancourt in the USA offer plans and accessories for a 97″ Typhoon, just a hair under 1/5th scale. I imagine there must be a fair number being built from his plans around the globe. Here is Roy’s prototype.

I found the DH Comet 4 and C17 really impressive. That said, I wouldn’t want to build one and then have it crash: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mSuawMl4lOo
OUCH!

I was intrested in the event mentioned at Witherensea and while looking around for info I noticed the Typhoon. Top left.
If this event is on again could somebody please give me a date.
Cheers.

Interesting… I’d say definitely the right ones (how many Tiffies that big can there be?) except that I’m sure I saw it in 1992 (a “do” for 50 years since the Yanks arrived), and Ghost Squadron website reckoned four years in the build, finished 2002.
All the same, four years work only to hit a pylon… 🙁

One of two built by the Ghost squadron – I think this one had a terminal meeting with an electricity pylon at Withernsea – the other one was sold and has since not re-appeared at any shows.

Best place to try (unless someone gets in first) would be the Large Model Association.
A look on the featured aircraft section reveals a large number of WW2-era fighters and bombers (including two 17ft span Lancs!).
