Local write up of a very very sad day and another display of the ignorance displayed by the current government due to their unfathomable cuts.
Here is hoping that the number and standards are revived soon.

There aren’t 44 pilots in the world who could hold that formation without the help of PhotoShop.
By: Dr Strangelove - 2nd February 2011 at 00:52
There isn’t the slightest chance that these pilots would jeopardise their future careers by actually doing this.
Oh the irony 😀

So – it IS Photoshopped??

Of course it is! There isn’t the slightest chance that these pilots would jeopardise their future careers by actually doing this. Regrettably it’s just another example of the dishonesty of Photoshop users.

Even India has a ship to land theirs on
Hi
I wonder if they will take the opportunity to purchase some cheap ones, it might save a few from the scrapyard.
cheers

SS, #13: will BAE return the money. They never had it. These mega-£Bn. announcements of In Service Support contracts are precisely intended to ratchet up the share price and are unreal. The parts content will come in drips and drabs anyway to the (OEM: ) Original Equipment Manufacturer, as will the sustainment of the Design Record (this was once known as Post Design Services and was regarded as a library/clerical chore); the “touch labour” content is commonly used as an overhead soak, recorded by Mr.Bean as loss-making. It’s all related to utilisation: no fly, no pay.

Hi
Well at least the spanish, italians and US still have their versions, so some can still be seen flying.
cheers jerry
Very true, and the Spanish and Italians arent exactly awash with cash themselves, yet they still operate this fine aircraft.

On clearing out a pile of A4 papers I found marooned a copy of Flypast dated July 2009 with special features on the Harrier in its 40th year of RAF operation. The foreword by Ken Ellis mentions the fact ‘that on the April 23 BAE Systems announced a contract with the MOD to support the Harrier force through to 2018, with the capability of going beyond that. So there is every chance that the incomparable Harrier will still be operational for the type’s half-century’ . How quickly things change, will BAE return the money? Fat chance! 😡

Now THATS funny..
By: Dr Strangelove - 30th January 2011 at 13:38
I’d really like to believe it isn’t, I mean, how funny would that really be? Two squadrons of disgruntled Harrier personnel putting on one final display for the suits stuffed full of bu66er all.
Sadly though, it is shopped, but one could always hope…..:D

A lovely shot of their last flypast over The Houses Of Parliament, impeccable formation flying as is befitting for such an occasion.
Now I’ve picked myself up after falling off my chair laughing:D:D:D, all I can say is – ” Love it!!! “

Should have flown the full 16 ship formation up the Thames at zero feet to prove a point.
If the article and quote are correct then 1 Sqn is only having a temporary rest before being reformed, can’t see any new Naval squadrons for along time though.

Nice one Dr Strangelove :D, I believe there was talk of several pilots nicking the Mr4’s from woodford and flying past in the formation of a Winston Churchill salute as well.

A slight squint also helps! 😀

Took me a moment – but what a beauty!!

Yes, better viewed a steps away from the screen, that way you can really appreciate the precision flying 😉 😀
