I have just witnessed the amazing and historical flight of 10 Spitfires taking off in pairs from Westhampnett ( commonly known as Goodwood) airfield.
I stood in the Lavant Straight and watched them take off 50ft above my head and turn into a formation of 2-4-4 and fly around the airfied for 4 passes.
6 of them then did a running brake right hand downwind for 32R and landed on.
The other 4 then joined up and broke left to land over my head on 14L
An amazing 20 minutes watch and listen to 10 airborne Spitfires.
Wonderfull!!!!
I am truly gratefull to have been able to be there and see the work of so many investors, owners, craftsmen, and volunteers, who have collectively made this spectacle possible.

Can’t do it all. 😡

MK912 performed a flypast at a Battle of Britain service held at Lydd in Kent on Sunday, in place of TA805 who was poorly.
Was very apt really as MK912 is an ex Belgian AF mount and there were a few visitors from that locale attending the service.

I did wonder, as it was only last week or so that it was on another thread, recently assembled!
Great stuff, though.

That is the reason why P9374 did not fly in that show!

Good for Goodwood for the 75th Anniversary. A pity that Duxford could not have emulated last year’s 16 Spits at Legends for the Anniversary. But one way and another we have had wonderful fill of them in the last couple of years. Roll on 2012 for the Mk 1 appearances!!:)
Yes I could not work out why Duxford was heralded in their air show as 75th anniversary of the Spitfire and yet only seven flew and two stayed in the hangars .Even the mk1 was rolled out to sit on the line even though it did not fly because it was still on its flight test program.:confused::confused:

Great photos. That first one of MH434 is my particular favourite.

Only Policemen get younger.
Re-enactors get older.

Last time i saw 10 spits must have been Biggin Hill 2000, along with two Hurricanes and the Blenheim (plus P63, Mustang etc) one of the best shows I have ever been too.

That’s a fantastic pic 🙂
It’s almost a shame that the Mk.I isn’t one of the quartet, as you’d have almost the entire development of the Spitfire in one single shot.

Six of the Spitfires came home to roost at Duxford this evening, in rather better weather than Goodwood. Had they arrived 5 minutes later, this shot would have been framed by a spectacular rainbow. The sight and sound stopped everybody in their tracks. Thanks to the pilots (I think Bonhomme, Romain, Spink, Brown, Kinsey and Jones), owners and groundcrew.
I think I will revisit the 1940 Duxford Operations room tomorrow for a BoB refresher.

How sad, i was at the Lavant straight grandstand which was lucky as it kept peeing down !
P.S Been reading your book finding the few ,very good but very sad about Sgt Ellis not getting a proper burial earlier.
