Ludicrous money for a (IMHO) not very interesting painting – how come these organisations can stump up money for this and not another national treasure languishing in a hangar in Leicestershire. That could do with a fraction of the money being talked about here, and it would be seen and appreciated by a lot more people.

I wouldn’t mind so much but there are countless “works of art” in storage, in Royal buildings and government buildings that Joe public can’t get at – art ’em all I say, make them all accessable then a few like this one can slip away and spend the 10 million on something else.
