Today was a public holiday in the Netherlands. And since a An-124 had been announced I could not stay indoors. Despite the awful weather. Overcast and darkish all day. Was not that good for photogrpahy then. Did a bit of experminting around with slow shutter speeds. 1/60th and 1/90th. Even tried 1/45th but that was not much of a succes!
Some nice planes where seen though. A few of them here, more at my site.
Freebird has been using this plane that came from Air Oman. It is obviously still in Air Oman livery (but with Freebird livery and logo) and still carries Omani registration.
The dreamliner plane! Nice surprise.
A shot at 1/60th. This small photo does not really do justice to the large version. The 1024×768 photo I will be uploading to JP.net (some day or another) does not really do justice to it either but it will have to do.
Just one or two weeks for the lease to expire. So I am very happy to finally have nailed it!
A new F50 for the VLM fleet. First time too I’ve seen this livery.
1/60th second exposure. Note that the http://WWW.KLM.COM titles have been removed. I don’t believe any in the fleet still have the titles. Not even those still in the old livery.
Another at an exposure time of 1/60th second. The complete version of this shot includes the rear fuselage and all but the tip of the tail. So a bit, well rather a lot, of cropping was required to make it presentable. I hope this can be salvaged for JP.net. I did use the minimum of 70mm my lense has. Should have walked back even furher. Tough luck I suppose to live near an airport where can you get this close to the runway.

Hehe already ordered it 😀 Off a different site though for £3 cheaper! Memory is on it’s way from ebuyer, and the 75-300mm USM is also on it’s way too. Cant wait 😀

Shame about the awful weather but the pics more than compensate for that.

Nice pics there, especially like the Air Berlin pig. After holding out for as long as possible using 35mm a 350D should also be in my hands by the end of the week all being well.

That Sun Country 737 is a long way from home

Oh, and for the 350D, with 18-55mm lense, + 75-300mm f/4-5.6 USM III, + 1GB of memory, I can get it for £820! I think that’s pretty damn good, unless anyone thinks they know of getting it cheaper?

Do it! It’s worth it if you can spare the money!
A 350D should be a good camera. Choosing the lense is tricky though. You can do as I did and buy the cheapest on available with as much zoom as possible. You’ll end up with the Sigma 70-300. But when it gets darkish it does not perform well and it does not have stabilization or special features. But it’s a great lense to learn how to use the camera.
Once my budget gets better I will definately be replacing this lense. The Canon 70-200L is an excellent and somewhat affordable lense. But it would mean I loose 100mm zoom. That’s rather a bit. Another option is to save more and go for a 100-400L. That’s much more expensive though and it would mean that I would also have to get myself a new small lense cause my current one is crap.
Choices, choices…
If you don’t mind to buy 2nd hand the 10D should be considered as well. I am not sure of the specs of the 350 but the 10D is much better than the 300D AND has a metal body. So if you accidentally drop it (or bang it on the head of your teacher) it will survive. The plastic body of the 300/350 may not survive a fall.
After looking very carefully into the specs of the 350D, 300D and 10D, I’m quite sure I’d like the 350D. It seems quite superior to the 300D (virtually instant start up, more FPS, much lighter and smaller). It’s basically a stripped out version of the 20D, as the 300D is of the 10D.
I’d love to afford L glass, but that’s not gonna be for a number of years. I think if I go for the Canon 75-300 USM I’d still be looking at some very nice quality shots, and a fairly fast operation. In the future I then have 2 options:
1) go for an L glass lense. Take a step down in zoom, but a step up in quality.
or
2) get a teleconvertor for the 75-300. With a 1.4x convertor, and the 1.6x factor with the DSLR, that’s 672mm of zoom!

Ahh just seen on jp.net, you’re using the Sigma 75-300. Sorry I’ve been asking everyone today, because I think I’m finally ready to take the big step and get a DSLR! Looks like the 350D should be coming my way quite soon…

Very nice photos, always good to see the An124. Which lense are you using there?
Normally a Sigma 70-300 without any stabilization or gadgets
Also got a Sigma 18-50 but I try not to use it as the photos are really soft from that one. Sometimes can not avoid using it though. 🙁
