100 years ago, to the day, the prototype Royal Aircraft Factory SE.5, A4561, took to the skies for its first flight, piloted by Major F. W. Goodden.

Just thought I would point that out!!

That is the one I mean. Awesome!

…As in Be2F A1325, if that’s the one you mean. A lovely stable aircraft that keeps you warm by covering you in a fine film of oil from the exposed engine right in front of you… I would have hated to have gone to war in it though!

It’s certainly one of the most aggressive looking aircraft I’ve ever shared a bit of sky with!

Nice shot, positron, what were you flying in at the time?

Here’s an airborne shot of F5690 that I took in 2010. It’s certainly one of the most aggressive looking aircraft I’ve ever shared a bit of sky with!

Those are some wonderful photographs! Many thanks!

Great shot, though, Errol.
Thanks, the distance from the viewing area at Masterton to the runway is a challenge for my skill level, so always looking for ways to enhance the shot.
I’m currently tossing up whether to go to Masterton on Saturday, the wind likely looks too much for flying (and if I want to cancel the rental car I have to do it early Friday).

Allegedly Goodden lived in Elmthorpe Road, Wolvercote, at some point between 1911 and 1916.
As did I rather later!

Happy Birthday!

Unfortunately I don’t have all three of TVAL’s reproductions in one shot.

Nice shot.
The SE.5a is by far my favourite of all the WW1 scout types. Probably stems from the fact that so many films have been made using them.

Thanks for the heads-up!
In celebration here’s a shot of the OW example I took at the last airshow 🙂
