Taken in N Africa with Hurricane visible in background. Code EY is, I believe,No 80 Sqn but what is significance of the painted figure on the fuselage?

Lovely shots of the JU88 EN830,the middle one i think is brilliant.
If anybody likes reading pilot autobios i can highly recommend…..
THE DIVING EAGLE by P.W STAHL.
He was a prewar highly qualified Lufthansa pilot but was not from a ‘military’
family so they made him a corporal JU88 captain,it is a fascinating book and gives a good insight into some of the internal politics etc in the Luftwaffe.
The diving eagle refers to the squadron badge not the writer! the title put me off for a while!!

Obviously not a 109, but another from my small collection:- JU88A-5 HM509, taken on a winters day in 1942 by a US Airman. The aircraft dropped into RAF hands at Chivenor on 26 November 1941.
Nice! Thanks for posting

Interesting stuff, how many of those were captured by the RAF?
109s?
I have notes/photos of over 20, but in terms of the UK, there were 9:
2 x 109 E (AE479 and DG200)
2 x 109 F (ES409 and NN644)
1x 109 G-2 (RN228)
2x 109G-6 (TP184 and VX101)
2x 109 G-14 (VD358 and VD364)
Overseas, types include Fs, G6, G10 and G14AS

In the back ground just visible under the port wing is a 109 and I believe an Anson.

Only the 109 – although I beleive a relic of the Hs129 (Canopy frame?) still exists
By: Harald - 31st March 2006 at 20:59
Where are they now?
Great period article Harald, I wonder if Black6 is in any of those pics?
Yes, it is. Since posting the article, I’ve learned that the 109G is, indeed, Black 6. I wonder if any of the other aircraft pictured in the article are still extant. Does a Henschel Hs129 survive?

[QUOTE=EN830]Also a FW190 in the wrong markings, the serial to this appears to be ?N999.
PN999 = Fw 190A-5/U8 = Wk.Nr. 2596

There were quite a few – 601 Squadron had a Stuka coded UFo?, and there was an ex-Italian Ju87B,
4 SAAF had a 109F coded KJ o?
By: bazv - 26th March 2006 at 23:34
Ive not seen this pic before either.but i know that one desert squadron had a Stuka(JU87 for the pedants!) as a squadron ‘hack’ usually flown by one of the warrant officer pilots.I think that squadrons who ‘liberated’ 109’s were not allowed to keep them long(salvaged for use by or as spares for the enemy aircraft flight??)
Also did one desert squadron have an aircraft called the ”CO’s Query”
I think the stuka i mentioned had squadron codes — roundel — question mark on fuselage.

The “RAFwaffe”…
Here is an article with pictures which ran in Popular Science magazine in July, 1944, showing a captured 109G and some other captured German aircraft.

Thanks, I’ve asked some other Captured Luftwaffe enthusiasts if they have any info.
Butler’s War Prizes mentions a 109F used by 80 Squadron coded ‘EY’, which must be this aircraft

It came from an old friend’s photo collection which I bought from his estate. I don’t know its original provenance.

Interesting shot, I don’t recall seeing that one before. Can I ask where it came from?
