109E Projects, current status

Hi all,
What’s the current status on the various E-projects in the UK?
Craig Charleston has finished two flying ones, there was one underway for a
German customer, that makes three. AA is making more skins by the look
Of it. Any info?

Its DB601 was built by Sigi Knoll and Karl Vogt 😎
German engines restored by swabian DB-whisperers 😉

Thread drift, but the only original flying 190 is FHCAM’s, Fw190A-5. Collings Foundation has Fw190F-8 ‘White 1’ under rebuild, but some way off yet. Thin on the ground sadly, the Flug Werk examples taking up the slack, although only about four of those are regular flyers, the rest under some sort of repair.

Good decision, such a time capsule should remain untouched, not have half of it tossed in the skip to make it air worthy. There are several basically new build examples already airworthy (or close enough) with more underway.

That’s fantastic…never would I have imagined, even 20 years ago, that so many Luftwaffe airplanes would be on the go. Just doing a cursory count in my head I can think of 9 DB powered 109s flying or really close to flying, not counting the 109 projects at Chino and Danville or the others out there. Amazing. Where are all these engines coming from? not complaining, mind you.

I recently read a rumour somewhere, probably WIX I would guess, that Friedkin has decided that the 109E (at Chino) will not be restored but rather preserved as-is. Bit of a bummer as far as I am concerned but there are those who will be pleased with the decision.

I bet the lions share of these are going through Mike Nixons shop.
Where they come from though…..

Little over half a year since shepsair asked the question, I guess it still is valid. Any update on this a/c?

Hi all,

Wondering if there is any news on Messerschmitt Bf109E W.Nr1983 that CC had completed in 2013 with regards the fuselage and the wings were being completed in Europe. Must be pretty much completed by now? Any updates?

regards

Mark

I’m afraid Buchons painted up as Me109’s don’t quite cut it for me, sorry…

Ironic, when you consider all the currently flyable Messerschmitt 109s in Europe are Buchons with a DB605 up front…

Wow!! Axis aircraft are so underrepresented in the UK. I absolutely loved the appearance of the FW 190 at Legends a few years back, equally happy to see Black 6 flying. I hope we see a day where a 262, early and late 109’s, and radial and V12 Fw (or FW) 190’s arrive over airspace into Legends. I know I don’t want much, but I reckon that sight will give me a heart attack!

Wow! Would love to see that whizzing past with a couple of Mk.I Spits on its tail!

As it’ll be based in Germany, perhaps they’d like a Spit 1whizzing past with this 109 on it’s tail………..
