56 squadron, Boscombe Down

Hurricane P3421, Sgt J Hlavac killed, shot down in combat with Bf109s over Wareham, crashed at Manor Farm, Worgret, 12.20 hrs.

92 squadron, Biggin Hill

Spitfire X4038, P/O D.G. Williams killed, mid-air collision during attack on Do17 over Tangmere, crashed east of Brighton, pieces falling at Fallowfield Crescent, Hove, 8.15 hrs.

Spitfire R6616, F/O J.F. Drummond killed, collided with above, crashed and burned out in Jubilee Field, Portslade, wounded in leg and arm, bailed out too low.

249 squadron, North Weald

Hurricane V7537, Sgt E.A. Bayley killed, crashed at Shades House, Cooling Marsh, during routine patrol, believed due to oxygen failure, 15.47 hrs

253 squadron, Kenley

Hurricane L1928, Sgt H.H. Allgood killed, crashed into houses at Albion Place, Maidstone, cause unknown, 15.55 hrs.

312 squadron, Speke

Hurricane L1547, Sgt O Hanzlicek killed, caught fire during routine patrol, cause unknown, crashed into mud of River Mersey, pilot bailed out into river at Oglett.

This was the first production Mk I Hurricane
