127 or 204?

i am currently reading about the Kosovo conflict in 1999.

read that the squadron 127 was the one dogfighting in Serbia, then read…it was not the 127 but the 204…
and in a third document…. the 204= the former 127 and is activ only since …2006 !!!

would appreciate some explanation from a savvy reader !!
