72 squadron, Biggin Hill

Spitfire P9338, P/O H.R. Case killed, lost formation and crashed at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, cause unknown, 09.20 hrs.

92 squadron, Biggin Hill

Spitfire X4591, F/O A.J.S. Pattinson killed, shot down by Bf109 in combat over Hawkinge, crashed and burned out in Bartholomews Wood, Postling Wents, 16.40 hrs.

145 squadron, Tangmere

Hurricane V7426, Sgt J.V. Wadham killed, shot down by Bf109s over Hastings, crashed Coursehorn Farm, Chittenden, near Cranbrook, 10.40 hrs.

219 squadron, Redhill

Blenheim L1113, P/O R.V. Baron killed, experienced unexpected engine vibration during routine night patrol, engines throttled back as a precaution causing high speed stall, crashed at Court Lodge Farm, Ewhurst, both crew bailed out but P/O Baron’s parachute failed, 21.40 hrs.

605 squadron, Croydon

Hurricane P3022, Sgt P.R.C. McIntosh killed, shot down in action against Bf109s over the Channel, crashed by Littlestone Golf Course, 12.30 hrs.
