At sometime during the period April to July 1944 whilst 146 wing was based at Needs Oar Point, a take-off crash occured. A pair of Typhoons were taking off, due to the bumpy nature of the runway the pilot of the first aircraft allowed the tail of his plane to lift too high, causing the propellor to hit the mesh tracking, which flipped it on to its back, the following typhoon hit the wreckage, both pilots were killed. This incident is mentioned in Jimmy Kyle’s book Typhoon Tale, but there is no date given, pilots names or from which sqn. Can anyone give details. And here was me, looking at the title of the thread and thinking ‘what the blazes is the oar point on a BAe 146 wing?’
