1700 seat airliner from India within 7 years

I you believe that ToI got the quote right 😉

http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-06-13/goa/29652692_1_indigenous-aircraft-seater-ashwani-kumar

PANAJI: Union minister of state for science, technology and earth sciences Ashwani Kumar said a 1,700-seater passenger aircraft will be rolled out in the next seven years.

Speaking in Panaji, Kumar said development of the aircraft is in an advanced stage and hoped India will be able to produce this state-of-the-art indigenous passenger aircraft soon.

“This will lead to the development of 34 to 40 new aircraft,” Kumar said. He said this would have a tremendous impact in connecting 2-tier and 3-tier cities. “There are many countries developing such aircraft but India and China are front runners,” he said. The aircraft is being designed and developed by the National Aerospace Laboratory, Bangalore.

And the Indian railways were streaks ahead of any LCC in India

Now defunct Indian carrier Damania from the early 90s was fined and eventually had to shut shop after an incident where 2 passengers were taken standing between BOM and DEL.
So they were clearly ahead of Ryanair. 😀

And the Indian railways were streaks ahead of any LCC in India just take a peek at these images http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=indian+commuters+on+trains&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1024&bih=477

I’d say a ‘moving sculpture’ of Indian railway commuters adorning trains. Sure beats washing the trains down on the outside, as the commuters garments will clean the carriages and engine.

In comparison what’s one, two or a ‘bakers dozen’ LCC passengers standing, maybe even on their heads, while the aircraft is in flight including take off and landing. All part of a busy day.

In fact I think MO’L drafted the press release for the Times of India

Standing passengers. Sounds good for Ryanair.

It’s his style of nonsensical publicity.

Based upon something like the An225 fitted with two decks and standing room only, to get the extra thrust for take off the punkah louvre vents in both cabins have to be adjusted to point to the rear of the cabin, for landing passengers will be asked to make them point forwards aiding the reverse thrust.

I wrote that based upon the seriousness of the orignal linked article because its a similar level of fiction – Mike

They’ve either gone for a hybridair mamoth or an extended version of the Dornier DO-X

They’ve either gone for a hybridair mamoth :rolleyes:or an extended version of the Dornier DO-X:eek:

http://www.hybridairvehicles.com/ Excellent choice and they could even relocate an entire State.

Or stone the crows:p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71D1S8-1kUY they’ve used those old drawings found in the Fuhrer’s:dev2: bunker that were written in code. The code was intentionally scrambled:rolleyes: so that anyone using the descriptions would produce a likely ‘white elephant’:p as opposed to a ‘flying elephant’.:D

Make it twice as long as an A380, giving 550 seats per deck, and make it a triple-decker. It will need 8 A380 engines (better make them the GE option, just to be safe) and wings large enough to hold them.
Job done.

1700 seats for connecting 2nd & 3rd tier cities. 😀 Knowing the justly deserved reputation Indian journalists have around the world for knowledge, integrity, & accuracy, I hesitate to mention it, but might there be a remote possibility (very remote, of course – I’m sure they always check their facts thoroughly) that there’s a spurious zero in that report?

I would literally beg people, not to read ‘Trash of India’. They are as qualified on any topic as my dining table.
