1931 Schneider Trophy awards

The attached image is of one of a number of small trophies awarded by the Royal Aero Club to members of the British High Speed Flight team and others after the final Trophy race in 1931. This example is in the RAeC Trust collection and on display in the RAF Museum Hendon.
I estimate that around a dozen were awarded. In addition to the RAeC example I know that R.J.Mitchell’s was auctioned in 2011 (sold for £27,000), Brinton’s is in the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovilton and one other (if I remember correctly) is in the Science Museum in Kensington. Does anyone know the location of any of the others?

Thanks

Thanks, good information. The RAeC Trust have one of those on display at Hendon too. Can you say where D’Arcy Greig’s now resides?

Another example was shown on The Antiques Roadshow a couple of weeks ago, the owner believing that only three were made. It would now seem that more than likely each team member plus others received one, as in 1931.

The RAeC minutes said

It was further explained that the Schneider Trophy Committee, had recommended that mementos of the Contest should be presented to the British Team and to others who had assisted in the
organisation.
The Committee adopted this recommendation subject to funds being available from this year*s Contest, and it was decided that the presentations to those who had assisted in the organisation should take the form of a plaque.

The original suggestion was that they should receive an engraved cigarette case, but I assume that this was vetoed on the grounds that most were non-smokers (according to Orlebar)

This was the model given by Rolls Royce to A/C D’Arcy Greig DFC AFC. It is silvered bronze made by The Goldsmith’s & Silvermith’s Company in Regent Street London
