A year ago I posted this link from page 42 of a 1934 issue of Popular Science about some crazy ideas aviation inventors have come up with, a now the recent (Feb 2012) AIR INTERNATIONAL has published artist illustrations of a companies purposed transport that are similar. Someone needs to tell someone about the USN Rockwell XFV-12A program — ie the idea worked on small scale test models. Yes with a small scale drone it can work. But getting bigger does not make it better.
