Does anyone have any list or manuals of instruments available in 1934. I have found a drawing for the Comets from 1934 which says the RPM’s are electric types 500-3000rpm. Its not a super plain drawing as its a copy of a copy etc so am not excatly sure what it says but as near as I can see it says its a ‘cuscale’ type.
the drawing shows a short flexi cable drive from the rear of the engines to a small generator, then electric cables to the gauges.
Has anyone any information that might help.
Thanks
Ken

Generator
Ken,
I might have one of the generators somewhere. I’ll have a look – or is it just the indicators you are looking for?

They do turn up every now and then Ken. Might be worth trying Shoreham or start a new thread appealing for a pair.

Hi Ken,
You are looking for a “Cirscale” RPM Indicator, manufactured by Record in Manchester.
It’s called a Cirscale indicator to distinguish it from the Company’s other product, the Edgewise Indicator – this is the vertically reading twin dialled instrument seen in the cockpit of some early wartime RAF aircraft such as the Whitley, Hampden, Oxford etc.
Here’s the indicator and its generator:-

A quick look on the internet suggests electric MKIV indicators of some kind, AP1275A from 1937 lists MKIVA and MKIVa* type respectively as
luminous: 6A/778, 6A887
non-luminous: 6A/777, 6A/888
(PM me if you want the pages from AP1275A)
