1937 HP Harrow/train crash?

On the 25th March 1937 a Handley Page Harrow of 37 Squadron crashed into a train which was either entering or leaving a tunnel somewhere near Radlett.

Can anyone please shed any light on this incident for me?

Any information at all, as ever, greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Obviously trying to return home…

The railway line runs alongside, and parallel to, what was then the Handley Page factory airfield.

Hi Kev

The Watford Observer covers Radlet now a days and has been around long enough to cover this date.

Fantastic, thanks for the information. I’ll see if I can get anything on the incident from DORIS now. Would anyone happen to know which local newspaper would have covered the area at that time?

Hello Kev,

I would have thought the Barnet Times might be a good place to start; I used to live in the area as a kid in the seventies and early eighties, and I know the Barnet Times had been around for ages even then. If the incident pre-dates them, or if Radlett comes outside of their area (as I think it might, it’s about 6-7 miles north west of Barnet), then they might be able to point you in the right direction.

I’ve also found this web page:

http://www.stalbansobserver.co.uk/regionalpapers/

which has links to many of the local papers in the area.

Good luck.
