Dear All,
I wonder if anyone could help me with the details of a Lancaster loss which is outside the scope of my ‘library’?
It was a 101 Squadron aircraft lost on 11/12th February 1943, I assume that it took part in the raid on Wilhelmshaven. Three Lancasters were lost, one being claimed by Oblt Paul Zorner 40km WNW of Borkum. My interest was sparked because one of the gunners, Sgt Reg Bozier, came from the village I grew up in. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial so I assume that his aircraft came down in the the North Sea.
I don’t have the relevant edition of Bill Chorley’s Bomber Command losses, could anyone be so kind as to supply further details of the aircraft and crew? Also, can the other two losses be ruled out as Zorner’s victim?
Many thanks folks

Just want to say thanks for the info here.
This has helped me find more info in the last hour than I have found out over the last few years.
It has even led me to a website that had indepth details of his squadron and a massive amount of info on the actual raid my great uncle was killed on (Dortmund-Ems Canal – Ladbergen 3/4 March 1945 467 Squadron RAAF – LM677 PO-V).

I used to live a few miles from where Bobby was buried in Germany and visited his grave numerous times, and I took my mum over there a few years ago to visit (one of the things she wanted to do before she dies!).
I have just phoned her and she is chuffed to bits as she knows some of the details of his loss but nothing as indepth as this.
Thanks chaps from me and my mum.

Hi Zidante,
There is a very interesting casualty file on the National Archives of Australia website for F H Paterson. You should find it if you follow this link http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ListingReports/ItemsListing.aspx then click on the icon under ‘digitised item’ to view the pages. I haven’t read it all, just the first several pages but it would appear that there was some confusion about this loss.
Although you are not specifically enquiring about F H Paterson, there will be information in the record held under his name which is relevant to the loss and will help you build a clearer picture.
Regards
archieraf aka Linzee

Paul, Thank you for putting me onto the Lancaster bombers site, it’s new to me (I’m more Halifaxes :D)
It looks like it was coded SR-G as well and had been on strength since the previous October. I’ll check that at DORIS, again once ‘real life’ stops getting in the way…
Marvelous stuff chaps!
Now… about 158Sq’s mysterious changing tail markings, because that is REALLY bugging me…

Theo Boiten (Nachtjagd War Diaries vol 1) agrees 3 Lancasters lost, two bought down into the sea by Flak @ Wilhelmshaven, and 106 Sqdn Lancaster LM303 claimed by Oblt. Paul Zorner.
cheers Don

Thank you very much indeed gentlemen. That is actually most helpful and, as ever, rapid!
If time ever permits I will have a look at the ORB at Kew but I can’t see that happening any time soon. :apologetic:
