…..and better still! Are you, Duxman, working through your French collection alphabetically? If so, will you next be serving up Caudron and Croses?

A few further images from slides in my collection ( some of the images need crediting to my good friend J-P Touzeau for slides we traded a while back)

An opportunity to post a few further French Aircraft pictures from my collection all from the 1960s. Most if not all aircraft had been withdrawn by the early 1970s if not before.

If the town of Airaines, where the Magister was last seen, is that in the Somme département, the aeroplane must have travelled quite some distance from its last registered home. There appear to be six garages in the town now, details of which can be found at http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/annuaire/airaines-80/garages-d-automobiles-reparation.

Peut-être google search sera ton ami, Monsieur Garey!

If it helps, the last registered owner (1958) was l’Aéro Club ‘les Ailes Basques’ in Biarritz.

Maybe we can find the address of the garage in Airaines, Monsieur Avion and Duxman! In 1968 I never thought I would be asking that question 46 years later!

I believe that in 1971 the DGAC undertook a grand ‘housekeeping’ exercise on the French aircraft registers, deleting – usually on the grounds of them having been scrapped or destroyed – all aircraft in respect of which no return was made (or, at least, no return indicating that the owner wished the registration to continue) in response to letters sent to the last registered owner at the last given address. Not infrequently such aircraft had ceased to exist many years before. Thus the deletion of F-BDPD from the CDN/CDNR register in 1971 is not a reliable indication that it survived until then but only an indication that it is unlikely that it survived after then. But even that is not conclusive for I believe that there have been examples of such aircraft re-emerging post 1971, presumably when, at the time of the 1971 ‘housekeeping’ exercise, the last registered owners had died, changed address or suchlike but the aircraft remained, in varying states of repair, in storage somewhere. However it would be most interesting if someone more knowledgeable that me could comment on this point and, if appropriate, correct my belief and/or enlarge upon it.

I don’t suppose anyone visited (the old) Lognes Emerainville aérodrome in the sixties and photographed Miles Falcon F-BBCN that used to be there?

I just saw that this excellent thread has been rejuvenated. I note the Hawk Trainer 3 F-BDPD in the second set of photos with a question as to the story behind it. I have in my notes for August 1968 that I saw F-BDPO outside a garage in Airaines, and G-ASEA refers to a petrol station in the thread. It could be that I misread the D for an O. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

Yes the Hawk Trainer you saw would have been F-BDPD – Picture below taken of it at Airaines in January 1965.

DH83, I understand from your PM (from months ago!) that you have a photo of Tiger Moth F-BHIN at Croydon, but you were having problems with your scanner. Is there any way you can get it to me? Please contact me at vintageminor-at-gmail.com. I PM’d you yesterday but I’m not sure how often you check your messages – probably once every few months like me!

TIA!

Ian
