On September 20th 1952, RAF Duxford was one of 76 Stations to be open for Battle Of Britain Day. Here are a few photos of the static display, taken by the late Gerald Lawrence, digitised and made available by Tony Clarke. Any further information on the event or the aircraft and units would be gratefully received.

In Sept.52 not only 76 stations open – free of charge – to us, but a real shooting War, seen as prelude to a Soviet adventure into N.Germany. Great, Super Priority spend was being poured into Canberra, Swift, Hunter and the Strategic Deterrent Force, some of which we saw at 1953 SBAC/BoB Displays.
The final AWA Lincoln new build delivery was April,1951!

I think it was indeed just those sorts of occasions which nurtured my enthusiasm. Note the school caps…….

Wonderful images from a more gentle age.
Particularly like the second one – would think those youngsters were genuinely enthralled to be so close to USAF jets and possibly inspired to learn more!
A long long way from PlayStation 3 !
Oh yes……I am also impressed by the SEVENTY SIX RAF Stations!!!

Fantastic. Never knew an Attacker had been into Duxford. Wonder if a Wyvern ever made it into there ;). Just love this operational period of RAF Duxford.. anymore photos would be greatly appreciated.
