Have recently accuired PDFs of Argos catalogues 1976, 84,85,86. Interesting to see changes in taste and price. Thoughty id let you see what is was like when toys were toys! ( to my mind anyway). From these pages, I had the Dinky Eagle Transporter from “Space 1999”, a sensation at the time. Also “Super Flight Deck”, the 70s answer to MS Flight Simulator. A spring would launch a plastic Phantom jet up a wire attached to your wall, it would turn around at the top and lower a arrestor hook, you then guided it down the wire with a joystick, to which the wire was attached, onto a plastic carrier deck with an arrestor elastic band. Great fun. The Airfix assault sets were good, i had the “Coastal Emplacement Assault set”- a gun complex, two sets of soldiers (British, German) and some vehicles. Evel Knievel was still popular, as was “The Six Million Dollar Man”, lots at school had the figure shown above, he had panels in his arms and a “Bionic Eye”. Action man popular too, he was still military in those days, loads of kids would be delighted to get an SS uniform for him at Xmas!!

Argos didn’t come to Scotland til the mid 80’s, but I remember most of those toys and that’s probably just a year or so before Star Wars came out and all those associated ‘Palitoy’ play figures… 😀

Cool. I used to have the Evil Knievel stunt bike as well as stock car smash up, streak racer, the helicopter thing as well as scalextric and train sets.
