Hi,
Some nostalgia for some of you, but I really need some help with learning about the 1980s as some coursework background before I go on to do coursework on “Educating Rita” – now no silly comments, I’m just an ickle baby born in the early 90s so anyhelp would be nice.
– Which films won the Oscars?
– Whick books were on the best sellers list?
– What sort of stuff did you do in your leisure time?
– What happened in the 60s that changed the education system?
As I mentioned – all help is much appreciated,
Wozza

Leisure in the 1980s from my own experience:
Listening to music (not much different to today, but tapes and not MP3 players).
Watching films (video rather than DVD!)
Playing on my home computer, the annoyingly temperamental ZX Spectrum.
Walking the dog (now I have no dog at all so that is one thing which is gone).
Going to the vets (not a regular leisure thing for most people but when I was a kid I was there all weekends and in school holidays).

And the rest of the 80s were a blur! :p

Corporal punishment was banished in schools in 1982 which made a big change.
In my leisure time I used to run for a local atheltic club in the early 80’s, rode my bike, played in the woods etc. In the late 80’s in my late teens I discovered the joys of wine, women and song (gigs).

education……11plus exam and grammar schools were done away with
Many thanks for the replies but I must strongly disagree here – I took (and passed) my 11 plus and go to a grammar school (not wanting to boast – I really hate it when people go “F’in bod or snob behind your back when you tell em what school I go to)

You can check out the Oscar winners on the IMDB, I think, for that decade.
