I have a truly vague memory from the late 1980s, before I was dragged kicking and screaming (that’s a lie 😀 ) into the world of warbirds.
I was at a wedding reception in Southend. So I guess I was at some kind of community hall. I went for a walk down what I vaguely remember to be a residential, or part-residential, road and I saw an aircraft along the roadside – highly visible from the street.
I would like to know what I saw and what it was outside. Can anyone help?

The Sea Hawk XE364/XE489 ? travelled round a bit via Southampton, Jet Heritage at Bournemouth and is now at Peter Vallances collection close to Gatwick.
The Meteor VZ638 also followed the same route and is also at the Gatwick Aviation Museum.
The yellow Harvard is now at RAFM Hendon
The B25 Mitchell is rotting away at North Weald.
I’ll probably think of a few mopre later. I visited there Nov 1980. I’ll try and find my list and pictures.

The Spitfire was the Bill Francis Mk XVI TB863.
One Seafury was inside. The other, quite rough by the standards of the day, was kept outside.

Only ever remember one Fury at the museum, the bottom half was painted a curious blue colour if IRC. Engine was seized as well.
I think there was a Spitfire on display there at one stage. I think I have still got the museum guide book somewhere.
As for the Lincoln, well I know is technically possible to rebuild most aircraft if you throw enough money at them, however I think its highly unlikly that the remains of the Lincoln will ever be rebuilt.
I have flown into Sandtoft quite a few times (good cafe btw), and only ever seen the remains of the wings.
Would like to be proved wrong though

Hawker Seafury at Southend.
There were two – WJ288 and WJ244. The former is in the US I believe and the latter went to Spencer Flack via Mike Llewllyn to become the all Red G-FURY.

The Lincoln is still extant but dismantled at Sandtoft. She is certainly missing many bits but hasn’t got to the stage where
she isn’t viable to rebuild.

Yes and lets not forget the Avro Lincoln which is sadly no more, Hawker Sea Fury (what did happen to that?), CASA 211, Fiat G46, B25 and quite a few more interesting aircraft and a nice hangar!

It was the Blackburn Beverley C1 XB261 at the now closed Historic Aircraft Museum in Aviation Way. They did have a Drover now at Lasham but no T33,
There was a Meteor, Sea Hawk, J29, Javelin & Thunderstreak and 30 other aircraft.

Only went to Southend once and I dread to think when it was.
Wasn’t everything outside? I hadn’t remembered it was a residential area, either.
All I really remember is the very tatty looking DH Drover. T-33? Can’t see how I can forget a Beverly but I have.

Most probably the Blackburn Beverly that was the biggest thing outside and visible from everywhere. It was broken up and the cockpit section is in hanger 1 at DX.
