Does anyone remember this 1980’s Tv documentary about pilots from the BOB……….. in particular Bob Doe. This posted by a friend of mine when I posted of his passing . Anyone have this they can post to YOUTUBE..that would be nice ……. TC
In 2000 ,on the event of the 60th. anniversary of The Battle of Britain, I had the honor and pleasure of meeting and getting to know Bob Doe. He was a most humble and gracious man. He and so many others will be missed. Yorkshire TV did a great Battle of Britain feature back in about 1986. The interview with Bob captured him perfectly. The intro shows him pumping gas for a customer at his service station. Bob

Churchill’s Few?
Would the programme you are thinking of be “Churchill’s Few”? I seem to remember that one from around that time. Featured Bob Doe, Geoffrey Page, Josef Szlagowski and Ulrich Steinhilpher (spelling?)…great documentary that I still revisist on a very old VHS tape..
Hope this helps..

I’ve also just watched Secret History,’The Few’ which I think was a bit controversial when it was shown.
This was because it concentrated on the class divisions and bad training in the RAF at the time.
Pilots featured included Gordon Batt,Charles Palliser,David Cox,Eric Poole,John Pattison,Iain Hutchinson,Ludwik Martel and Tony Bartley.
Tony Bartley described the friendly warning from the police in this..
One or two of those interviewed,although not sounding bitter,still seemed pretty rankled about the treatment they recieved as Sgt.Pilots.
Very good documentary,well worth watching.

Hi BlueNoser352;
Just rewatched the VHS I have…
If the docmentary showed Bob Doe working in his garage serving fuel, then it must be “Churchill’s Few”. This was produced in 1985 by Yorkshire Television and directed by John Willis. A great film that featured some very modest and frank interviews…
There was also a book produced based on the docmentary which is a very good read…ISBN 9780178123284 Author: John Willis.
Hope this helps…
