This doesnβt surprise me one bit, you ever seen one of these land or take off. They more often then not land nearly half way down the runway then brake like mad. I believe that they are thinking off adding a new terminal at Sandbach services on the M6 to accommodate the PIA 747βs.
Also take off they must derate there engines so much that they are nearly in Liverpool by the time they are airborne.

I don’t think they over-dramatised it but I do think that 0857 on Tuesday and 1113 on Wednesday is not within 24 hours! I make that just over 26 hours! π π π

I know it was on the BBC website…. You posted the link.
I don’t think they have overdramatized it for once.
Two planes belonging to the same airline have caught fire within 24 hours of each other on landing at Manchester Airport.
Police say the undercarriage of the first Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft caught fire at Terminal Two at 0857 BST on Tuesday.
Firefighters based at the airport put out a fire on a second PIA flight at about 1113 BST on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said none of the passengers on board was injured.
Officers confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incidents.
It is believed the fires were started by overheating around the undercarriages.

It was on BBC website they over drama-tised it

Ah right… Didn’t think it could be something so simple? Surely though, they would have been trained to the same standards as all other airline pilots, why should they be so hard? Company policy?
Sorry if it sounds dumb, I know nothing about the pilot industry!

Maybe the PIA pilots don’t know how to land the a/c all that well, are hard on the brakes…

Yes, yes it is!!!! π

Any idea why it just happened to those two a/c?
By: BigredMD-11 - 9th June 2004 at 20:12
Those brake discs are made of magnesium, so they can easily catch fire…
By: LBARULES - 9th June 2004 at 19:51
Well if you had a link you should of posted it!
Seems strange that two a/c from the same airline caught fire, you would think it was because of the warm weather, but no other airlines had these problems and imagine alot of the places PIA fly to are alot warmer anyway.
Anyone shed anymore light on this?
