2 more DDG-51's for the USN

Not sure if this has already been posted, but came across this today. Two more DDG-51’s are going to be constructed. My assumption is that officials want to maintain the industrial base, and have added these two units to ensure continued work at an unknown shipyard. Im thinking that these two units will go to Bath Iron Works, especially with the recent talks about the “winnter take all” approach the Navy is taking in regards to the DD(X) program. Northrop gets the DD(X) program, and BIW gets two more DDGs to maintain their work force until the next project comes along.

But this is all just speculation on my part

I thought the original plan was sixty, I remember reading a book a long time ago, that had been published before the construction of the first burke had finished, it stated 28 flight 1s followed by 32 flight 2s?

IIRC aren’t they pressing ahead with this design to surpass many of the other designs as well? Weren’t there going to be an eventual total of 88 of these vessels?

Maybe I’m just getting old and sanity is starting to slip.

with the addition of these two units, it will bring the total class of DDG-51s to 64…one short of the original 65 that were planned

What will that bring the eventual total to? We mortals get excited about a handful of new surface combatants for our navies… lol
