this was showing on the flyer forum…
haven’t worked out how to get a financial angle on this, so I’m hoping this won’t get donked for advertising – be nice to help 2 more Spits into the air.
We get lots of enquiries from people wanting to buy rides in Spitfires, but the other day I took a call from a lady with 2 containers full of two and a half Spit MkV’s ‘cluttering up’ her property, which she needs to sell on behalf of the engineering team, to free the space for some building work.
Apparently there are 2 genuine identities, loads of jigs and tooling, many parts already finished and paperworked, 900 drawings, manuals – all in all the inventory amounts to 15 typed pages. (No engines).
The engineering team behind this stalled project are ex-RAF with a track record of excellent craftmanship – they will be happy to talk to any prospective buyer but are anxious to avoid timewasters.
I offered her 50 quid on the spot, but it seems she/they would settle for around £375k (I probably haven’t got the correct spanners anyway).

Sounds a little optimistic considering they are without engines. However for someone that wants to get hold of a Spit, they could always buy the lot, sort out the bits to make one and sell the rest on.
