Its the 20th annivesary of me making my first solo visit to LHR tomorrow. That was in the days when it had a central viewing area and everything could be seen from there. Plus you could actually buy something eadiable!!
Highlights from that day were
CCCP-86530 IL62
D-ABKL 727 Condor
F-GBBR F28 AF
JA8131 747 JAL
N68AF,N329PA 737 PAN AM
N865F DC8 Iceair
N615TF B707 JET 24
PH-AGE A310 KLM
ZS-SPE 747SP SAA
7T-AJA 737 AIR ALGERIE
9M-MAI 747 MAS
Oh and loads of Tridents!!
BIZJETS
A7-AAB 727
MM62012 DC9
N191C DA20
OY-ARA DA10
HZ-108,VR-CAN G2

I became a school holidays regular, noted later that year
5B-DAJ BAC11 the only Cyprus 111 I ever saw
CS-TEC L1011 TAP
SE-DFZ 747 SAS
plus the start of the short lived Alatalia 727’s
and the TU154’s relacing the 134’s on LOT,Tarom and Balkan flights.
Of course it was also still only Pan Am and TWA on the alantic.
In those days there was very little new being delivered to the airlines unlike today. The fleets of LH,KLM,SAS etc didnt change for quite a few years.
Oh to be 14 again!

Albert I was just born too late. I was first taken to LHR in 1977 so do remember the Viscounts,VC10’s(Ghana A/W and Gulfair) and the TWA and Pan Am 707’s. Would have loved to see the propliners though.

You know, it’s 20 years this year since I first visited Heathrow too.

I recall (aged 13) standing atop a car park near the main control tower and looking down at everything that moved. 😀

I flew on KLM’s A310’s a couple of times in ’89 and ’91.
