Just watched a documentary about an A300 that was hit by a SAM on climbout from Baghdad and the crew managed to get it down with no hydraulics!!-it didn’t look too bad after-just wondered if it flew again?

I remember this well because at the time I was in Saudi and I had applied for a job working in Cargo at Baghdad Airport. I didn’t get the job as I was not a US national but this incident plus some non-aviation related events in Iraq made me feel that perhaps I was lucky not to get it.

Despite being offered for sale at about $5m with a new wing and two new engines (subsequently removed and the subject of court proceedings) the aircraft is now reported as written off at Baghdad according to ATDB.

Well if it wasn’t for the sturdy way that Airbus’s are built then it could have been different and even more so to the build of the wings which are made not far from here at Broughton near Chester. Held together a treat to get them safely back. 🙂

I think its likely i would’ve ended up with some more cargo (in my underwear!) if it had happened to me!!

There had to be a good deal of skill involved in that – manouveroing an A300 with the engines alone, no control surfaces, I wouldn’t like to try it. Think I would have a bit of a sweat on as well, if I had been the pilot 😀
It certainly was a remarkable piece of airmanship

A little more info. after delving, a/c was repaired early 2007, but prior to test flight, an engine was damaged and both were removed. This is the explanation given to the court when the two owners of the plane brought their case to court over the disposition of the a/c, OO-DLL (c/n 093).
