What are your opinions on 2007 in the avation year?
Personally i think that it has been a ok year. We have seen the First Commercial flight of the A380 awell as the debuet of SQ new First Class Product,BA have orderd some Long Haul Aircraft,AZ has merged with the AF-KL group, KL have take VLM over, New routes for LH have been announced aswell as the south american airlines now coming back into europe since the fall of Vairg. CX announcing MAN is the next destination on the list which is great and the 787 rollout. We have also seen the fall of MAXJet, 100’s of stranded holiday makers at NCL MAN LGW oh whever thanks to FJE.
EZY take over GB and then expand into MAN, LS expand at LBA with 8 new destinations announced for the Summer Season

Why was their new year ruined because of a delayed flight? How delayed?
I used to get bothered about things like that aswell! It soon wears off!
Some sort of issue with Jet2s 757s i belive, we got told on going techincal problems with in the fleet, which i haven’t looked into was more interested in getting the pax sorted. Allot of the pax had plans that wern’t going to come to much if they were delayed. Ive since found out that the flight got out earlyer that the anticpated delay which is good.
Im not bothered normally about telling pax about delays did it many a time during the summer with various airlines its just the time of year for the delay that i dont like but its out of my hands.

My ‘aviation achievement’ in 2007 was getting a job working for Manchester Airport.
The highlight within that was organising Manchester Airports Emergency Exercise for 2007. Worked alongside Thomas Cook, borrowed one of their aircraft (G-JMCE), got a load of volunteer passengers, wrote the ‘exercise scenario’, handled the volunteers on the day, had planning meetings with the emergency services (both airport based and external) for two months leading up to the day – and as the climax – started the exercise on the day, and watched the emergency services mobilise in response to the ‘accident’ – lots of blue lights, sirens and big fire engines and ambulances. 🙂 The results that we got may be used by the CAA and IATA to create an international standard procedure in handling evacuations of aircraft on airfields. 🙂

NCL has had its ups and downs this year.
The major highlight has been Emirates launching a once a day service to Dubai, which has been fantastic not just for NCL but for the whole North East. Im happy to report that the service is selling well and is proving very popular with passengers travelling on the Asia and Austraila! Rumours are going around that they are going to be code sharing with CO to run a service to JFK.
Jet2.com has made its mark on NCL nicely offering a good range of services to Holiday locations over the summer aswell as citys such as Krakow. We had 2 757s and 2 737s based at the peak of the summer. For the winter they have launched several flights to the Canaries which have sold nicely. Looks like they have dropped a few routes for next summer, but i think this is all part of Jet2.coms consolodation across the entire network.
Next Summer we have for the first time Thomson fly Long haul flights to Orlando, Cancun and Puerto Plata ontop of the Monarch flights which is fantastic for the airport and the region.
Hopefully next year we will get a dedicated flight to the United states with hopefully one of the American carriers. Rumours are still about that Jet2.com will launch a service to New York useing a 767 once they arrive.

Good year for you mate! For me, I suppose it would be getting my first job in the aviation industry as a dispatcher at the start of the year which I’m still enjoying.
Have to catch up with you at some point Dan, your LAX-HNL flight has been downgraded to B752 incase you don’t already know. 🙁
Didn’t know you were a dispatcher mate! Who do you work for? Send us a PM if you don’t want to post stuff on here. 🙂

For its getting my job at NCL as a passenger services agent in July and holding onto it. Wouldn’t change it for the world love the people i work with, love been around aircraft and of course the passengers! They are great well some times! Today been a very bad example when Due to Fleet problems Jet2.com Delayed there LPA flight i hated telling people that there new year was ruined! Not nice but it comes with the job something different every which is what i love about this industry!
Aims for 2008:
Get kept on when my contract runs out.
Travel a bit more, thinking about making use of the NCL-DXB service with EK.

We should try meet up before I b*gger off. I saw about the CO752 just before I booked it, hence why I am now on an ATA 753 instead!

2007 in Aviation For You
At the end of the year, someone usually posts a thread sharing their aviation achievements and successes from the last year, plus their aims for the following year. These can be anything from photographic achievements, or getting to fly on a new aircraft.
I have a few:

[*]My first magazine centrefold:

[*]My first air-to-air shoot:

[*]And my first magazine article published (6 pages of text + photos) on Aer Lingus, published about 2 weeks ago. I will one day post the .pdf for anyone to view if they’re intereseted, but I am not allowed for the first 3 months.
[*]I also managed 66 flights, with 6 new types (Iberia A340-300, Binter ATR-72, Swiss RJ100, Aer Lingus A330-200, Piper PA-28, Piper PA-34 Seneca)
I don’t really know what my aims are for 2008….I suppose I should be looking to bring back lots of photos from my round-the world trip. I start in March, travelling to the USA, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Thailand (I’ll post a full itinerary a bit closer to the time). This trip includes a flight on the SIA A380, so I can’t wait for that 😀
So go on then, I’ve gone on long enough it’s time for other people to share theirs…

Im suprised the EZY announcement wasnt today, to be honest. Are they not ment to go on sale tommorrow. Oh well i guess we will soon know! As for there new destinations. Not giving any clues to where they are, but if you hover over various cities that GB serve and EZY dont, you got the little text icon show up, indicating that something is to be writen at these places on the routemap. It happens at, Sharm el Sheik, Hurgarda, Malta, Paphos, Larnaca, Antalaya, Heraklion, Tunis and Skiathos(?) i beleive. I am deply upset that it is not visible over Gibraltar, i think EZY would do great there.
As for our year at LGW. Its been rather good, Sterling increase in flights, Norweign Air Shuttle services begin, Oman Air daily flight to Muscat begin. Wizzair services are set to begin at the end of January to Katowice. This year has also seen the start of Zoom UK, with routes to Bermuda and JFK, and they are set to expand to San Diego and Fort Laudale during the summer. Also, rumored that next year LGW is going to be getting 2 weekly Malaysian Airline flights, during the Summer, Presumable to Kuala Lumpur. And Aegean Airlines have supposidly applied for slots.
Unfortunally, due to open skies, AA, NW, CO, US, DL. Have all attempted to aquire slots at LHR and have succedded. They are moving most of there services over to LHR, leaving only the flights for Leasure back at Gatwick.
So the last 12 months and upcoming 12 months have/are to be very interesting at LGW. In just 6 months time it will be a completely different place.
Best Regards and Happy new year
Josh

easyJet have not yet formally taken GB Airways over as they are still waiting for regulatory approval. GB Airways focus at MAN over the past 12 to 18 months and now at LGW has been more toward the easyJet way of operating and less the ways of BA, so it’s not going to be too big a shake-up as you fear.
Tomorrow (1st Jan) should see the announcment of MAN routes – it may be that the approval has gone through and they are merely going to rubber stamp the existing summer schedule that was in place, with the addition of Malaga services. Or may be the launch of services by mainland European based aircraft into MAN. I tend to think it is the latter.
CX may have MAN in their sights but we are not going to have them relaunching services unless the Moscow stopover and 5th freedom rights that they perversely want are granted.
The major event not listed in the thread opener is the Flybe launch of the old BAConnect services. Hopefully all the retained routes are doing as well as hoped!
As for the 787 rollout, I daresay Airbus will look to roll out an A350 in just as much a flyable state as the 787 was. That is this year’s big blooper from Boeing, alongside the denial of delays until they magically woke on a Monday saying 6 months delay when on the previous Friday there were none!

easyjet took over gb airways? im sorry but i never knew and am soo angry that such a good and well preserved franchise of BA was going well and they have to buy it out just all in spite of BA
well whats next for easyjet? to take over flybe or somthing

From what I know at NCL, the good thing for this year is obvious. The start of EK. Also, that there is going to be a TOM 767 here next summer operating flights to Punta Cana along also with Monarch to Cancun and Orlando.
🙂
