Very sadly , this super event which was to have been at Hullavington, has been scrubbed, for reasons not yet made public.
Lets have a guess.
Huge, unwarranted insurance demands?
Needless Health and safety b*ll*cks?
Security concerns (MOD site) ?
With the demise of Woburn as well, this year is looking a bit deflated for fans of vintage light aviation events.:( 🙁

Not that it helps for this year, or possibly even next, but would a similar event be welcomed in Northumberand? More to the point, would the pilots of small aircraft be prepared to fly all that way? What exactly do the owners / pilots expect regarding facilities at these events?

It’s indeed a shame as I really enjoyed last year’s event, despite unhelpful weather. And Hullavington is a lovely drome to host it on.
I hope they can revive it for next year.

This is on their website:
G-VFWE 2008 CANCELLATION NOTICE. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATE.
(Issued from the Operations Office w/e February 8th 2008)
“It is with the greatest regret that I must announce the CANCELLATION of this year’s G-VFWE. The event, planned for Hullavington Airfield from 16th-18th May, will NOT now take place.
All pilots and trade participants who have already booked in will shortly receive an official notification together with a refund of their monies – less a nominal amount for processing. Bookings received after 01/02/08 will receive their cheques back ‘uncashed’.

Very sad indeed, it was one of the events I’d planned to go to this year that was actually affordable for me.

Very sad to lose G-VFWE. I gather rumours were circulating at Turweston last Sunday, and they’ve now proved true.
However, there is a possible substitute. Blue Max and the airshow organisers at Sywell, are planning a vintage ragwing fly in on Saturday 23rd August, the day before Sywell’s charity airshow.
Of course, all comers are welcome to stay over and watch the fun on Sunday before departing. It has the makings of being as good as G-VFWE.
Only trouble is I’m scheduled to be working that weekend…..grrrr

With a bit of luck (and a lot of effort from the DH Moth Club) it is hoped that the Moth Charity Flying Weekend at RAF Halton on 14/15th June will be every bit as good as Woburn. (And its right on your doorstep Propstrike!!);)

OK, lack of sponsorship seems to be a (the) factor.
