During my post-op recuperating I started to tackle the huge task of trying to catalogue my umpteen thousand aviation phots before tackling my Grandads.
Well, to give me courage, I watched POC and could not believe that filming for this started almost 20 years ago. Certainly they were filming in Feb 1988.
With that in mind, I have scanned some of my photos and present them below.
I was thinking that it would be nice if this thread could be made a Sticky so that others can post their pictures and recollections. We could also cover what happened to the aircraft. The photos below show the late and deeply missed Mark Hanna, as well as My Grey (who is still with us luckily). Also shown is the B25 camera ship that I was lucky to fly in this year at the Gathering of Mustangs (now, or should I say, returning to her Pacific Prowler monocle a real combat vet with four sunk Japanese ships).

Piece of Cake DVD- where to buy it in the uk.
Just a quick note,bought my DVD from – http://www.films2door.co.uk
for only £13.99 including postage. It did not take long to arrive either. Can recommend their Imperial War Museum’s WW2 ‘Spitfire frontline fighter’ and ‘Ferry Pilot’ too. FH.

When I saw the title of this thread I couldn’t believe it was that long ago. Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?

Well, from my (possibly dodgy) memory, in the book the incident occurred to a two-bladed Hurricane prop, so I guess they were keeping the dramatic incident in, despite the use of four-bladed Spits!
Fabric covered wings vs metal, I believe!

I posted a link a while back from YouTube which shows the last ten minutes of the last episode, with some brilliant dogfight footage. If anyone wants a reminder, I’ll try to find it….

I picked up the PoC DVD set here in Los Angeles about a month back. Bought it from Barnes & Noble bookstore. Also tried to get Perfect Hero at the same time but no luck on that front. 🙁

‘Piece of Cake’ is apparently scheduled to screen again in 2008, if this website can be believed. Only trouble for most of you is you’ll have to move to NZ.

Just recently watched it for the first time.Loved the Friston airfield connection and generally the attention to detail throughout. Highly recommend the series to all….
But can someone please tell me what that early scene about the broken wooden Rotol blades was all about ? Followed by the comment saying something about getting back to using metal blades. I think History records it the other way round. The history of Rotol blades has been an interest of mine and have as yet not heard of any blades breaking in flight as shown in the film, without it having been the result of a flying accident etc. On forced landings the wooden blades breaking first, often saved the precious engines.
If anyone knows the reasoning behind this scene I would love to hear from them. Always willing to learn more. Thanks FH.

I think you mean Grace not Grey, Nick Grace was tragicaly killed in a car crash, Stephen Grey is thankfully still very much with us;)
Nope I meant only that Mark was the late, I know Stephen Grey is still with us, saw him at the Gathering!! It was just one of the phots showed Mark and Mr Grey chatting by 434. My grammar was probably not the best!

Near the start! 😮
It’s not a very clear pic, being in black and white and quite small, but it’s there if it helps.

Hi all, didnt see poc when first screened so have ordered the series on dvd, just waiting for them to arrive. Apparently only screened once due to contractual difficulties !!!
Usually, whoever commissions the TV series has written into the contract that they get X-many airings.
Are we sure it wasn’t rebroadcast because of the controversy it generated the first time? 😀

I’m still looking for that elusive shot of AR213 painted as NS-S.
It was just taking off as I arrived at Duxford. Five minutes earlier…
