Nevertheless, the Dunkeswell one was a particularly bad one as it was wholly avoidable. And bad enough to kill yourself by trying to cheat the odds, but to take your entire family with you is pretty unthinkable.

My mistake. I misread the date. I’ve arranged a new appointment with Specsavers.

And the relevance of that when talking of a 2015 accident is?
That apart, I haven’t been conscious of it being a particularly bad year, no.

Is it my imagination or, is 2016 a rather more than bad year for GA fatalities ?

The full AAIB is out now.

It looks like a combination of a complex aircraft with the pilot a little behind it and who was also pushing his luck in marginal weather on a home-made ‘instrument’ approach to a field with no procedure.
He had health issues but they are not seen as a factor.
All very sad.

Any autopsy reports? Could be the pilot was incapacitated and someone else tried to fly the plane.

The full report should have details of his total experience and recent experience, as well as the weather report.

Going to be filed as ‘pilot error’!
By: Newforest - 16th November 2015 at 19:52
I think that was what I meant by a ‘flat spin’!
By: Arabella-Cox - 16th November 2015 at 19:30
From the picture I saw it looks like a “pancake” impact. Debris field is very small.
By: Newforest - 16th November 2015 at 15:54
Photos and names of the deceased now released.
By: Newforest - 15th November 2015 at 12:56
All the occupants are believed to be from the same family. From the Mirror photos, does this impact look like a flat spin event?

Correct suggestion. Very sad.

N186CB, a Piper Malibu (PA46) has been suggested, possibly out of Fairoaks.

Choices would be Bonanza 36, C.206 or a more expensive Piper?
By: Arabella-Cox - 15th November 2015 at 09:39
Cherokee 6, Cessna 206 or 210?
By: Newforest - 15th November 2015 at 08:00
Little information available yet. It would appear to be a weather related accident and Dunkeswell is the highest licensed airfield in the UK.
By: J Boyle - 15th November 2015 at 05:58
What type of aircraft, as six-seaters are somewhat uncommon in the GA community?
By: Arabella-Cox - 14th November 2015 at 20:03
Very sad and more so following the tragedy in France. R.I.P.
