YOUNGSTERS at a Taunton primary school had an unusual visitor this week – a Spitfire.
The plane arrived in the playground at Bishop Henderson Primary School for a visit organised by Year 6 pupils as part of their studies on Remembrance and World War 2.
It was made possible by owner Graham Adlam, whose wife Claire is a teacher at the school.
Head teacher Ed Gregory said: “Everyone at the school is extremely grateful to Graham for bringing in the Spitfire and creating a day that our pupils will remember forever.
“It was a fantastic experience and the amazing sight of a Spitfire in the playground supports our new school vision, which says childhood is an adventure that stimulates curiosity, creativity and resilience.”
The plane, which is reconstructed with 50 per cent original parts, is the only full-scale static replica
in the world of fighter ace Johnnie Johnson’s Mk IX Spitfire EN 398.

Hi All,
While it was obviously a thrill for the children and not to mention very gracious of Graham Adlam for taking part in a history lesson 😎
It does show how typical the BBC is with sloppy research into whatever they appear to do these days.
The documentary series that is showing about the Blitz is another case in point with film studio clips being portrayed as real, generic mass aircraft
formation flying representing German bombers,Stukas etc.etc. I just cannot understand why they have lazy and sloppy researchers employed to do basic searches for whatever and use incorrect footage. This especially when a lot of the targeted audience are people who would obviously recognise the difference unless they are simply dumbing down what they show as their thinking nobody will notice ?
Personally it’s such a let down when I see this as we all pay for a licence and the BBC seem to treat audiences as a cash cow, rather than an audience that
who have some idea of what the countries history has been through in particular WWII and cannot be bothered to provide correct images for their supposed superior programmes.
If they concentrated more on the actual programmes no matter what instead of wasting money for stars fees and services that are not used etc. then I
personally would not have room to complain and moan and I apologise for moaning on the forum….:(

What was the event at Newport Pagnell?
It was Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th June this year…a 1940’s Vintage Weekend.
Displays on Bury field including the Spitfire and 109 replicas with various events also in the town.
The shop keepers had a competition to dress their windows with a 1940’s theme. Crossed tape on the glass for blast protection etc. I loaned a bunch of stuff to my barber of 50 years ‘Christos’, father and son. There was a car parade and the BBMF made a couple or three passes.
A good day.

Are those 50% original parts by weight, volume, or fantasy? I’m sure Graham, would never have made such a claim, so journalistic creativity then……

Well fantastic for the kids, wish I had teachers who would have organised something like that when I was at school.
