Number 229 OCU was established at RAF Chivenor in the early 1950’s to train jet fighter pilots, first on Vampire’s and later Hunter’s.
One of the early components of 229 OCU was 145 “Shadow” Squadron which existed at this base from 1958 to 1965.
It’s badge was displayed on the nose of unit’s Hunter F6’s and T7’s and is clearly shown in the photographs taken by George Trussell in 1960 (permission to publish granted).
Recent modeling magazine artwork and some decal sheets have shown this badge with a light blue scroll with red “145” number on it.
I have never seen a colour photograph or slide to confirm this.
I have only seen colour slides and video clips showing the scroll to be yellow with a very fine red outline with the red number “145” superimposed on
the scroll (see two poorly reproduced colour slides of Hunter F6 XG226/6 (Waddington BoB Airshow 1961?)
Can anyone please confirm whether this unit ever had a light blue scroll….I suspect that they were exclusively yellow?
Typical F6 serials/codes: XE606/2, XG159/3, XE627/4, XF387/4, XG200/5, XG226/6, XE644/7, XF385/11, XF386/12, XF383/14, XJ715/15

Have you searched all the photo sites? Flickr starts to get more and more old stuff.
With regards to 145sqn, coincidentally ran into this…
Good luck with your search

Afraid not but have some of XL578 if that’s any good?
Unfortunately no. But thanks all the same.
THere is one pic of XL569 in an early silver and orange scheme on Air Britain Photos, but are there any more of her in that colour?

Can’t find any images which would help I’m afraid but you’re assumptions are probably correct. Decal artists have a habit of guessing in the absence of factual evidence!
Ironic then that your very own Hunter book has a colour profile in it of XF383 (photo in this thread) showing a light blue scroll with red “145” number on it.
This ‘guessing’ thing must be catching.

Its from an RAF Chivenor film where they end up firing guns and rockets at ground targets and a flag towed behind a Meteor TT.20 tug.
Thread hijack: does anyone have any early pictures of Hawker Hunter T.7
XL569.

Great photos – especially the first colour shot – I assume that’s from a movie?
