Dear All
as a precursor to the Sywell Airshow on the 24th September we are planning a Chipmunk Fly in on the 23rd – mail shots are being sent to all Chippy owners in the UK and Todays Pilot are not only sponsoring the event but also providing prizes and goodie bags for any attending owners – more details at http://www.sywellairshow.co.uk.
Having thought about this I wondered what people felt about perhaps having a special Trophy in memory of Steve. You all know how much he loved the aeroplane and not only of course is it the 60th Anniversary of the Cadillac of the Skies but is also sadly a year since we lost him.
I moot this as i dont know what the forum’s views are on it, whether you think it wholly inappropriate or tactless or indeed if you think it a good idea what the trophy should be awarded ‘for’. Best turned out Chippie, attention to detail, ‘humourous addition’, paint scheme etc.
As i say, this is an IDEA, it hasnt been put to the Committee yet though i suspect they would support it wholeheartedly.
All comments would be welcome as I am anxious not to be insensitive or do anything inappropriate.
Cheers
TT

Sounds like a brilliant idea. As to the cleanest pilot award, I’m not so sure, as when I go Chippy (Chippie) flying, I have a terrible habit of standing on the seat first and then finding later in the day I have a dirty backside. I just cant figure out why? 🙂
Best wishes,
Martin
Jannie, we have never met as yet. But if you come to Sywell we will have cloths at the ready for any dirty backsides :diablo: We wil have a orderly que formed 😉
I for one will be happy for the commitee to agree to this, im sure that once they hear the full story they will all be in agreement. If the forum would like to present it them all the better!

Post a poll. There is money in the whip-round fund, so if people think it is a good idea, and the committee agree to it, then consider it paid for.

Cleanest Chippy pilot!
Leaves me out then!!! :p
I would of thought the “Steve Young Trophy for best Chippy” would be fitting.

Steve – ‘DHC-1 Cadillac of the Skies was Steves saying’ … I believe at Legends last year…
I also believe he blinged the odd airyplane…. 😉

I think the idea of the Trophy is an excellent way to commemorate Steve, but rather than a polishing award, how about a “Spirit of Chipmunk Flying Award” independently judged by a couple of Steve’s former friends from this forum.
Steve was as many know, an ardent “Chippie Fondler”, but that extended to flying, getting oily and dispensing good humour, as well as polishing.
Waddayathink?
PS. Cadillac of the Skies? Naaa, that’s big American and thirsty. A Chippie has a lumpy old British four-banger, leaks oil and is draughty. Must be a Healey, TR, MG or Morgan of the Skies then?? 😀

Sounds like a good idea. If you’re looking for monetary contributions from the forumites, I’d chip in.
(I’ve just realised that’s an awful pun! :D)

I think it would be a fitting tribute.

Agreed – A wonderful thought.
But, as you say, does it get awarded for?

I think its a really nice idea and a great tribute too.
