3/2/04 – Bad news for Brussels Charleroi?

Ryanair yesterday announced that they are moving the date of their 3rd quater financial results forward from February 3rd 2004 to Januray 25th 2004.

The reason for this is that the latest media reports are indicating that the EU Transport Commission’s report on Ryanair’s cost base at Brussels Charleroi will now be released on the 3rd of February 2004 and this would have coincided with the release of Ryanairs quarterly results.

I believe that if Brussels does not approve of Ryanair’s cost base then Ryanair may completely discontinue servcies from Brussels Charleroi. This could be devastating news for CRL as they rely on Ryanair for most of their air services. There are rumors though that Virgin Express would start services from CRL to replace FR.

Does anybody know what airport Ryanair would choose to serve Brussels instead of Charleroi? The only one I can think of at the moment is Liege but I know that is an extremely long journey from Brussels but knowing Ryanair that wouldnt surprise me! 😀

We’ll just have to wait till 3/2/04 to find out!

I would not mind to see them landing in EBLG (well, I would as I would be forced to take their flights instread of VLM or SN to go to london, 😉 ) But again, Maastricht is so close to EBLG… I doubt they would put two destinations that close.

Jeanske_SN – This is the point of my post

Yes Ryanair services out of CRL are successful and yes they do not want to leave BUT the main point of my post is that Ryanair has been part of an EU court case of its subsides it receives from CRL!! If the EU find this unlawful they will make Ryanair pay back the money they have received in subsidies (this was shown on a t.v documentary here a while ago) because it may be illegal!

And on the Ryanair website it has said many times that if the EU find the CRL base unlawful then they will protest by appealing and may discontinue services from CRL!

That is the point of my post!

Look, IATA doesn’t say allow airlines to post it like

BRUSSELS
liege

but crl is officially called BRUSSELS SOUTH charleroi.
TV will stay in Brussels, that’s for sure, they are finally making some profit now, but the expansion market in Brussels is quite limited I think. That’s why they are now also flying in Amsterdam.
There was a problem with St. Etienne airport, they weren’t allowed to advertise it like
ST ETIENNE
lyon
They requested IATA to add dusseldorf to niederrhein airport, and it was approved.

It’s not all that easy.

Ryanair is doing well at CRL and I don’t see a reason why they should leave; I don’t understand a thing of the point in your post  .
