3-ship formation of….what?

hi everyone,

can any aviation expert shed light on the attached image?

taken may 07 ,over west midlands,england with a canon dslr + 200mm telephoto lens,in sunny daytime sky. object was flickering like an arc-welder!; and made zero noise or smoke/vapour trail.sighting lasted 2 minutes.
