3 Spitfire T9's on Top Gear

On Sunday night, the new Top gear series started, and as usual they do a preview of what’s to come in the following episodes, there was a glimpse of 3 spitfire T9’s flying over Duxford with Jeremy Clarkson in the back, I think it was Ml407, PV202 and i couldn’t see the other one. Doe’s anyone know what they are doing, rumour has it they are to race from Duxford to Belgium.
Anyway, have a look yourselves on i player below. The bit i’m talking about is right at the beggining, so not much of a wait.

I cant agree more – I’ve been looking at it for a few days, and as the last mention of the Spitfires was some posts ago, its time for the thread to close.

Fail to see what any of this slagging off of Top Gear and its presenters has to do with Historic Aviation and wonder why the Mods havent pulled it:confused:

I disagree. He’s a very clever but very lazy man.

Moggy

Clarkson is clever enough to surround himself with people who provide loads of support – for example I think a lot of his best jokes are written by a man called Richard Porter – but he lets himself down too often. In one of his books he praised the Merlin for being flexible enough to increase in capacity from 27 to 37 litres. (Can’t tell a Merlin from a Griffon). On another occasion he was interviewed on the LeMans pa which went out on the internet and referred to Michael Schumacher in unfavourable, innaccurate and too libelous to repeat terms.

I stopped watching Top Gear years ago when I realised they know little about cars and how to drive them and one of my friends stopped watching after his parents were in a nasty car crash. Crashes stop being funny if you’re personally involved. (Though I guess Hamster still thinks they’re hilarious, you would have thought he would have learnt.)

re

I have to admit his program about St Nazaire was very good, however there are a lot of old bigots who love to listen to an outdated old man and his boring jokes about foreigners – I love working mens club humour, but make the effort not to retread old material we have all heard before.

What I detest are bigots who harp on about law and order and “bring back national serivce” yet roar around in flash cars with utter contempt for safety. If Mr Clarkson had witnessed anyone being hit by a fast car he may wish to keep his mouth shut.

🙁

a formula that appeals to a lot of people… churns it out repeatedly without bothering to try and improve or refine it.

Moggy, have to agree with you on the fact that he’s a clever man.

Personally I like the show, I like the man. He’s a lot cleverer than some are saying. He has given a lot of his time for “Help for Heroes” to raise awareness, to raise funds, he is in awe of the military and has utmost respect for them, he’s visited troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, to see his programmes on the St. Nazaire raid and the VC it was clear to see. Also he is in awe of British engineering too, and that comes out in his support of Brunel etc.

I have a passion for aviation and cars, where else would you get to see some of the supercars driven and to hear them if not on that show. Agree it’s not a techy show these days, that’s what 5th gear is for I guess, it’s more of a magazine show, but it makes me laugh, and I guess it beats Heartbeat of a Sunday evening…..

I think he is a half wit. Simple. 😀

He’s found a formula that appeals to a lot of people (I have no idea why) so he just churns it out repeatedly without bothering to try and improve or refine it.

He’s now turned into the pastiche of himself, yet it still appeals to a lot of couch potatoes so he makes more money than you and I put together (I guess).

re

Moggy, you can’t hate top gear that much if you plan to watch it :):).

If people don’t like top gear, there is always a device called “The Remote”, which changes the channel for you.

SADSACK, if you were given the chance of saying what you like on Tv, drive fast car and have fun, whilst being paid for it, i bet you wouldn’t have a problem with tg or Jeremy Clarkson.

I have no problem with the program, I just dont care for his attitudes. He is entitled to his opinions, I think he is a half wit. Simple. 😀

Spitfires

One of the best programme on TV, don’t take it serious, most episodes are a laff, with their various antics & when they thrown in a bit of aviation, spot on – all seem to be missing the point in the last episode, taking the mick out of the germans, and wot’s more British then arriving in style with 3 spits, then Aston’s – excellent, just watch the prog for wot it is – entertainment.

thank goodness. Most folks look at me in amazment for not liking this egotistical yob. It apears its ok to be a yobbo as long as your middle aged and wealthy, yet decent lads I know who work hard and take their mates and gf’s for a spin in the country are branded criminals? (admit at 100mph+ at 03.00 in the morning in the middle of nowhere it was fun!!!)

But Clarkson and the Top Gear crew do not break the law when they film on the streets.

Moggy how would you know whats been on Top gear when you dont watch it, Top Gear has been a laugh a second sure beats any thing that comes out of Russell Brands gob like making a joke about rape.

It might almost be worth sitting through an hour of Clarkson and that toe-curlingly sycophantic audience to watch…….

Then again.. perhaps not.

Well, that segment was thoroughly entertaining, I must say!

You could tell they were just going to take the absolute pi$$ from the word go – constant references to various “Boche-bashing” war films, samples of the themes from Battle of Britain and 633 Squadron throughout, the R/T “chatter”, not to mention the one-armed chap (a la 633!) piloting Clarkson’s car!

They could have ended it with a dogfight, though. Clarkson in a Spit, and Sabine Schmitz in a Messerschmitt 108 (OK, a bit one-sided!!)….

Honestly, one of the funniest things I’ve seen on the show in a long time!

Moggy It’s on at this mo ! Doh

Ah, sorry.

It’s a lovely summer evening and Mrs Moggy and I were sat in our garden in Norfolk enjoying a BBQ and a couple of bottles of chilled Sauvignon.

The haunted fishtank has its uses, but substituting for the enjoyment of real life isn’t one of them.

I have a PVR. I think TG is repeated sometime this week, yes?
