Having waited about 5 weeks, It’s on its way in a container Sigma said, I received my 170-500 today and duly trundled off to Duxford to give it a try. There were three Spitfires sitting on the grass in ‘Area 51’. TD248 went up first and was gone for about half an hour. Then a load of school kids came up to the barrier just as John Romain fired up RW386 and then gave an aerobatic display for their benefit. After he had parked, the kids were escorted down to his Spitfire and after a group photo, had a tour of the aircraft by John. As this was going on JG891 started up and also gave a display.
First use of the lens was a bit hit and miss but I liked what I got and what I could get from it with more practice. Didn’t appreciate the weight of it until I put the 18-70 lens back on the Sony and it was that light it nearly floated away.

Daz and Bex dont get me wrong when I say this as I do understand your dissapointment in school trips but I am glad it wasnt just me that had rubbish trips. :diablo:
Martin, no problemo, I feel the same. Besides Ive still NOT been to Dx yet so its on my list of things to do this year, including your place too. Bex

Great Pics……
Anyone know if anything is happening of note at Duxford on Monday (30th April)? Dad’s birthday so might take him.
Only reason I ask is for my own birthday the other half says “do you want to go to Duxford?” and I replied that I didn’t think much would be happening on a Friday.
Promptly missed that Spit’s “first” flight after restoration.
PM if you like.
Thanks

Brian,
Absolutely wonderful shots, even if they were as u say “First use of the lens” and as Martin & Daz say about school trips, I wish I had school trips like Duxford, although, WW1 trenches is hard to beat but well Dux would be on top with that. Bex

Nice pics Brian.
Love the one of the kids in front of RW386.
Their faces say it all. And isnt it great that the Spitfire can still light up young peoples faces like that. Reassuring for the future of historic aviation.
Ps Why did I never have such good school trips.
