3 Squadron RAF crest question……..

Hi,

I bought a 3 Squadron RAF crest/patch on Ebay last week and it arrived today……..

I didn’t look at it very closely before I bought it but now it has arrived I noticed that it’s not the same as the 3 Squadron crest I know; did the Squadron receive a new crest when it changed from Harriers to Typhoons? (I would not think so).

Here’s the normal 3 Squadron ‘chicken on a brick/third shall be first’ crest on the left….. and then the one that arrived in the post today on the right….There’s no ‘chicken on a brick’ and the motto is not the same.
It looks like a phoenix or griffin holding a torch….. is there another branch of the RAF with a 3 Squadron that uses this crest?

What’s going on? I bought it because I wanted a 3 Squadron crest to go with my Harrier items. It was advertised as “ROYAL AIR FORCE 3 HARRIER RAF SQUADRON PATCH”.
