Driving past the Royal Oak, Hawkhurst, a few minutes ago I thought (as I always do) of Peter Townsend, Bill Millington and Pyers Worrall all meeting there, bloodied and battered, after being shot down on 30 August 1940 and having a good few pints. It got me thinking….
On 30 August 2015, a Sunday, and at exactly the 75th anniversary time I intend to raise a pint or three of Spitfire ale in the very same bar. Anyone join me?
I think I’ll have to get together a little picture frame of the three pilots (with the story) to hand over to the pub – if they’d like to have one for the bar.
I need to think of a Hurricane flypast, perhaps? Should be easy enough to fix by calling in a few favours!
Just a whim.

A brilliant whim!
What a great idea – I’m sure you won’t be short of company…….
