301 FTU (Ferry Training Unit)

Hi

I’ve been trying to find out what aircraft the above unit operated and from which airfields. I do know that they were at RAF Lyneham for a while (1942-1944) but that is all.

I would be grateful for any information.

Thanks.

Thanks Mark.

… and what book might that be?;)

Was it a purely an RAF unit or would there have been links to the ATA?

‘RAF Flying Training & Support Units’ Air-Britain Pubs.

Recently updated I believe.

Hi Nicks,

The FTUs trained mainly RAF crews (a handful of Soviet pilots and navigators went through 302 FTU) and checked out their aircraft for overseas flights. AFAIK they had no dealings with the ATA.

Best wishes
