31st October 1940 – we Remember

Thursday 31st October 1940 – The Fallen

Today, on what from the British point of view came to be regarded as the last day of the Battle of Britain there were no fatalities amongst the RAF squadrons taking part.

For more information about the events of the day click here http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/october31.html

Perhaps those of you reading this would like to add a few thoughts, or a photograph to this thread, regarding the battle.

This photo of Ray Holmes was taken on the evening of the live broadcast on Channel 5 earlier this year, and the words at the foot of Eric Males’ headstone say it all really.

Thank you to Whalebone for starting this thread off. It was an honour to have the duty of completing the last few weeks.

The fourth issue of ‘Battle of Britain Remembered’ from the Battle of Britain Historical Society is now available from WH Smith, price £5, and running to 246 pages. The photos and articles are very thought provoking and moving. Treat yourself to a copy before they all go.

Geoff.
